A few bass guitar players who have not been practising long believe that as a bassist they should learn bass chords. I’m not certain if this is because some people first play regular guitar first or not. Chords can be played on electic bass yet single notes are played much more.
As a bassist it’s considrably more important to know how to play over chord progressions, than playing bass guitar chords.
Chords on bass guitar sometimes sound cleaner 6-string basses due to having a higher string than a nornal 4 string bass. The deeper the notes the worse bass chord sound due to this it’s a clever idea to play chord on bass high up the neck at around the middle of the fretboard.

As a novice it can be challenging to attempt to play chords at first. Pressing lots of strings down can be hard when you don’t have the strength in your fingers, causing them to buzz.
